When Enola Holmes-Sherlock's teen sister-discovers her mother missing, she sets off to find her, becoming a super-sleuth in her own right as she outwits her famous brother and unravels a dangerous conspiracy around a mysterious young Lord.

Being a moderate ‘Sherlock Holmes’ fan I think it’s safe to say Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill were the exciting ins for me. The trailer was also pretty damn good and made it look like a fun movie.

Millie Bobby Brown, fan of hers in "Stranger Things" of course, was an expected delight as always. I knew she had a singing background before her stardom and half expected a song to pop up but instead was pleasantly impressed with her insane stamina for stunts, action and fight choreography. For her size and age it was insanely fun to see her take down men twice her size and save the helpless mansel-in-distress (Louis Patridge).

I loved how restrained and just helpful Henry Cavill’s character was. It was just the right amount of Sherlock I needed without taking over the movie or showing off. Both the character as written and Henry Cavill made for a really great version of the character I thought. Complimented Millie Bobby Brown’s ‘Enola’ perfectly. Sam Claflin, who I had never seen before to my knowledge, looked insanely similar to Henry Cavill. Bravo to the casting director on that one. I kept mistaking him in scenes for Cavill multiple times. Helena Bonham Carter was terrific and in one of the most badass roles I’ve seen her in.

Just based off the name, premise and trailer I thought it was a fun modern twist on a classic character. It wasn’t until actually watching the film did I see how Enola tackled every movie/action/male hero trope around every corner. It was so refreshing. Only thinking of it now, I almost think of it as a kid’s version of ‘Deadpool’ but in the 'Sherlock' universe. Not as in the nose but has a similar vibe, 4th wall-like-breaking and self consciousness close to ‘Deadpool’s.

I loved how the film / Millie Bobby Brown balanced the talking to the camera element so well. I’m also not used to her getting so many lines! Just compared to “Stranger Things”. We also get to hear both hers and Henry Cavill’s lovely, original accents.

Millie Bobby Brown in "Enola Holmes" (2020)

It’s a beautiful and inspiring direction for films, especially mainstream action and females in film. I’ve seen a few that have tried similar things, some I love, some seem too forced, but “Enola Holmes” (2020) was able to do it in a way that gave me hope, respected and wanted more of. Millie Bobby Brown is truly an acting force of nature that I cannot wait to see where her career takes her. Hoping for more 'Enola Holmes' in the future!
