Rakeket Abergel in "Jax in Love" (2017)
I had the wonderful honor of Rakefet Abergel reaching out and sharing with me two wonderful short films; "Jax in Love" (2017) and "Boo" (2020) which premieres TODAY (10/19/20) on ALTER! Rakefet is an exciting up and coming star who, on top of that, is one of the most down to earth people I've had the pleasure of speaking with! I started my double feature with "Jax in Love" (2017) and boy was I in for a treat!
Immediately I could tell Rakefet was so comfortable in front of the camera. I appreciate that in a performer. That they’re able to relax, be in the moment and find the scene. She had a natural ability to improvise and she had her comedy beats down pat. This may be coming from watching her acting reel first and getting a wonderful sense of Abergel's range and personality.

"Jax in Love" (2017)
I love the mix of comedy and mystery she's come to do so far in her writing! It allows for all the more creativity and fun! Especially with a rock solid performer like Rakefet!
I don’t know if she had anything to do with the casting in "Jax in Love" (2017) but I got the feeling that a few of the cast members (even in "Boo" 2020) were friends she'd known prior to actually shooting. Either that or they just found a natural chemistry I consider rare in the business. Especially with our female hitchhiker friend who I thought just knocked it out of the park! Just a whole cast of great characters!
For a short film I really loved the production value. I could tell they had a great team in the camera and lighting department. The sound was slick, audio clear as day.

It’s a fun, genius little film that excites me to see where this team of talent can go. Without spoiling, as I don’t like to give too much away, I expected something strange on the horizon, but couldn’t have predicted where writer Rakefet Abergel took me!
Check out her directorial debut "Boo" (2020) premiering on ALTAR today (Oct 19, 2020):

"Jax in Love is an engaging, creepy tale set on the desert backroads of the US. Not an unfamiliar setting for fans of the horror and crime genre but one of the many strengths of Jax in Love is that it takes its audience to an unexpected destination." - faustifilms, IMDB
"This short movie makes me never want to talk a stranger again. Writer and actress Rakefet Abergel inserts her unique personality into a creepy tale full of unexpected twists. Her character reminds me of Kathy Bates' character in "Misery", Annie Wilkes. Production value is fantastic - a great short horror tale!" - kc-204, IMDB
While it’s definitely a horror film, Jax In Love doesn’t produce the typical kinds of scares or fear. We’re given big clues about Jax’s nature almost from the start. The film fills in the details as it does along. It’s as much a character study as a straight-up fright film. Even if the character in question has some dark secrets." - Jim Morazzini, Voices From the Balcony
