Jamie Foxx & Dominique Fishback in "Project Power" (2020)
An exciting addition to the superhero genre. Very much in the vein of realism among the likes of “Push” (2009), “Looper” (2012) “Unbreakable” (2000) and “Limitless” (2011). I’m a fan of every sub genre superhero film there is. I’m a fan of every genre. Nothing wrong with the big supes and their capes. Nothing wrong with the gritty, realistic super humans. Just depends on what you’re in the mood for!
My ins for this film were Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and from the trailer; looked like a badass action crime movie with some sweet, supernatural elements blended in. All three of those lived up. Rodrigo Santoro was also an exciting face to see in the film from HBO’s “Westworld” that I didn’t know was in prior to watching. The surprising factor that stole the show for me though was Dominque Fishback. So outstanding in this film! If you don’t know by now I love the hip-hop world. Especially the golden era. The way the film incorporated hip-hop and intertwined it with the story and was able to move it forward too was brilliant! Added an unexpected layer to the film that I loved. The beauty of the writing really shined through in her bars and beats. That one scene with Jamie testing her was probably my favorite scene.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt in "Project Power" (2020)
I had only heard of the film a few weeks ago and next thing I know it's out to watch. So nice to be able to have new and exciting content still coming out during times like these. The film is shot beautifully. The action is badass and experimental! Effects are batsh*t, crazy cool! Insanely cool music! Execution was top notch on all production fronts.

Rodrigo Santoro in "Project Power" (2020)
Some of the elements reminded me a lot of Guy Pearce’s character in “Iron Man 3” (2013) by Shane Black. Characters in that film associated with a company called AIM are producing super humans that go unchecked and rampant throughout the city. My favorite of the Iron Man trilogy. This film seems to explore that idea more deeply and make it the focus of their story. Echoes vibes of "Men in Black" and other sci-fi action movies but on a much darker level. Amazon’s “The Boys” (2019-). It really captures everything I love from so many different films and genres.

Jamie Foxx in "Project Power" (2020)
I feel like this has been Jamie Foxx’s best role since “Django Unchained” (2012). He got a lot of work right after that film but I never felt they came close to his performance in “Django Unchained” (2012). One of Joseph Gordon Levitt’s best films in awhile as well. They make a great on-screen team.
A rock em’ sock em’, action, crime, thriller super hero movie with a hip-hop beating heart! Wonderful job to everyone involved!
Oh and I loved the Robin reference they made while having The Dark Knight Rises’ Robin (Joseph Gordon Levitt) in the film.
