Andrew Garfield in 'Tick, Tick... BOOM!' (2021)

All I knew about this film going in was that Andrew Garfield was in it and that it was going to make me cry. Second part wasn’t true, but I still loved it and Andrew was incredible. I’ve liked his work ever since ‘The Social Network’ and into ‘The Amazing Spider Man’ and more, but I’d never seen him quite like this.

Funnily enough I had no idea how much of a musical this was, and I don’t consume a ton of them normally, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Maybe not like in the catchy way that ‘In the Heights’ or ‘Encanto’ was, ironically all had the help of Lin Manuel Miranda, but felt more like theater and storytelling with a mix of music and stand-up comedy. I loved it!

Vanessa Hudgens in 'Tick, Tick... BOOM!' (2021)

Robert de Jesus’ character was one of the best, Alexandra Shipp’s too. Vanessa Hudgens did a wonderful job who I hadn’t seen sing since ‘High School Musical’. I liked that she didn’t have a huge role and made her small one even stronger.

Robert de Jesus (left) & Andrew Garfield (right) in 'Tick, Tick... BOOM!' (2021)

Definitely enjoyed this one, you’ll love it I’m sure if you love musicals. I respect them greatly, they’re just not usually my first choice when it comes to genre. Those who don’t like musicals might appreciate the stand up comic aspect of it and the important themes it touches on.
